Accessible Playground Project

Help Us Build a New, Accessible Playground for Montgomery!

SPEAR is pleased to be working closely with the PTO and the school administration to build a more accessible playground at Montgomery Elementary School. SPEAR aims to raise the final $25,000 by November 30, 2026. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to show all of the kids in our community that they belong. Donate now!

Montgomery Elementary's playground serves more than 500 students in grades K-4 during the school year, as well as children attending after-school and summer programs, visitors to the Montgomery Farmer's Market, and community members.

The current playground is 25 years old. It has a mulch surface that prevents kids and caregivers with wheelchairs or walkers from using it, and the irregular surface can wear out people with limited mobility or stamina. Accessible play options are currently limited.

The new playground will feature:
• a smooth turf surface that all kids can access;
• numerous ground-level play options integrated into play structures;
• an accessible swing with a harness;
• an accessible basketball hoop;
• a "buddy bench" to help kids find friends to play with; and
• an existing fence (lacking in our city parks), making the playground more manageable for families with multiple small children or autistic children who elope (run away).

The community has come together in a big way to raise funds through the PTO's annual Aves Games and the generosity of donors, but turf is expensive! Please help us raise the last $25,000 to ensure that we can make the accessible turf surface a reality. All kids deserve to play!

Montgomery Elementary PTO is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
